The discoveries of the Neuron Expeditions
Fifteen years of breakthrough discoveries with global reach. We reveal the unknown and push the boundaries of science.
We support exceptional Czech scientists and talented students, connecting them with leading figures in business. We create a unique community of people who believe in the value of education and innovation. Through modern scientific patronage, we continue the tradition of the First Republic’s elites.
We demonstrate that science is beautiful – and that it is through science that Czechia can grow.
About Nadace Neuron
Fifteen years of breakthrough discoveries with global reach. We reveal the unknown and push the boundaries of science. A Neuron Expedition found the world's largest underground thermal lake, a lost Mayan city and a uakari monkey that had never been documented. Our scientists are changing the world — get to know their work and their successes.
Our laureates prove their exceptional quality every day and win international recognition. Several of them have also received prestigious ERC grants and other honours.
Fifteen years of breakthrough discoveries with global reach. We reveal the unknown and push the boundaries of science.
Our scientists are changing the world. The physicist Tomáš Jungwirth and his team discovered altermagnets — revolutionary materials that will reshape the manufacture of chips.
The biologist Jiří Friml was the first Czech to receive the prestigious Wittgenstein Award, for research into plant hormones that may transform agriculture all over the world.
The foundation's activities
We honour excellent Czech scientists. Over our existence we have honoured more than 130 scientists and given them financial prizes exceeding 70 million crowns.
We support Czech scientists in field research all over the world. We were there at the discovery of the oldest Mayan city, of the largest underground thermal lake and at the rediscovery of the uakari primate.
We connect the worlds of science and business, hold joint gatherings, share inspiration and debate. We complement the closed platform for exchanging views with Neuron Online Talks on current subjects for the general public.
We introduce the beauty of science to young generations and inspire promising students on the way to a scientific career. We support placements at research institutes in Czechia and abroad, support competitions and popularise science.
We award the Neuron prizes to the best scientists in the Czech Republic across seven scientific disciplines. Get acquainted with the winners of individual fields or years:
