"Every year the Neuron Awards are a celebration of the exceptional talents of Czech science. We will introduce you to figures who are pushing back the boundaries with their research and who have the courage to change the future," says Monika Vondráková, chair of the administrative board of the Neuron Endowment Fund.
This year we will present the awards in the Pantheon of the National Museum, where the leading figures of Czech science and business will meet to pay tribute to the new laureates. Among them will be people solving fundamental mathematical problems, physicists and chemists whose work reaches into artificial intelligence, and doctors working on eradicating diseases of civilisation. The host of the evening will be Karel Kovář, Kovy.
The largest number of awards and a new award for transfer
"Last year we gave Extraordinary Neuron Awards to scientists fighting pandemics; this year we look to the future with hope once again and are restoring the full number of awards, and adding some," Monika Vondráková explains. The Neuron Endowment Fund will indeed present the largest number of awards in the twelve years of its existence.
New this year is the Neuron Award for the exceptional connection of science and business, which will go to an exceptional academic spin-off. "One of the missions of the Neuron Endowment Fund is cooperation between science and business, so the new award is a further step in our long-term effort. We want these two worlds to become natural partners, because we believe that scientific knowledge is the engine of a successful society. The stories of the new laureates are a great hope for me," Monika Vondráková adds ahead of the gala evening of the 2021 Neuron Awards.
