Listen to the podcast with Tomáš Mikolov

The laureate of the Neuron Award for a significant scientific discovery 2018 in computer science was a guest on the Brain We Are podcast, in which artificial intelligence, evolutionary algorithms and Google Translate all came up.

The Neuron Foundation has begun working with the Brain We Are podcast, whose aim is to introduce the most interesting names in Czech science today and the problems they are addressing. The first representative of the Neuron Award laureates to come into the studio was Ing. Tomáš Mikolov, PhD., an expert on artificial intelligence and language models.

Those are also the subjects of this eighty-minute conversation on Brain We Are: how neural networks work and how we can use them for machine learning, what Tomáš Mikolov's path to Silicon Valley, Google and back to the Czech Technical University was like, and what benefits and dangers artificial intelligence represents.

Tomáš Mikolov has professional experience with technology companies such as Microsoft, Google and Facebook. He caught the biggest players' attention with his Word2Vec program, with which he improved the performance of translation systems up to ten thousandfold. His paper Distributed Representations of Words and Phrases and their Compositionality is among the foundations of the field and is widely cited by those who follow him. At present this outstanding scientist is building his own team at the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics (CIIRC), where he works on complex systems and evolutionary algorithms within artificial intelligence.
