Three Czechs will present world discoveries from adventurous expeditions to the public

Do you think everything on our planet has already been discovered? We will show you it is not so! We invite you to a debate with three exceptional Czechs who undertake journeys to the inaccessible corners of our planet and reveal their secrets for us. We invite you to a debate with three exceptional Czechs who undertake journeys to the inaccessible corners of our planet and reveal their secrets for us. The public debate Neuron Expedition — on the road to discoveries takes place on 14 May 2019 at 6 p.m. at CAMP in Prague. Sharing their experiences from the Neuron Expeditions will be the well-known naturalist Jan Dungel, who discovered a forgotten species of uakari monkey in the Amazon jungle; the young polar scientist Marie Šabacká, who maps the past and the future of our planet on the ice plains; and Tomáš Jůnek with Arthur Sniegon, who are heading to equatorial Africa to save its last wilderness. The debate is hosted by the well-known traveller Petr Horký and organised by the Neuron Endowment Fund for the support of science. "We would like to introduce to the Czech public people who take travel to another level. For the sake of their scientific purpose they are willing to keep visiting inhospitable corners of our planet that are inaccessible to civilisation, in order to bring back findings and discoveries of world significance. We want to show that science is an adventure and that the Neuron Expeditions are here for those who see it that way," says the co-founder of the Neuron Endowment Fund Monika Vondráková on behalf of the organisers.
The guests of the well-known presenter and keen traveller Petr Horký will be the naturalist and painter Jan Dungel, a lover of the Amazon who in 2017 discovered in the depths of the Brazilian rainforest the uakari monkey — a species last seen by Europeans in the 19th century. The young polar scientist Marie Šabacká will talk about her research into glaciers, what they tell us about the state of our planet, but also about what it is like to race across ice plains on a quad bike and work in deep frost with polar bears at your back. The zoologists Arthur Sniegon and Tomáš Jůnek will show the public how naturalists map the last blank spots in Africa, how the fight against poachers goes, and how all of that is connected with, for instance, the Sapa market in Prague.

The Neuron Expedition project is an opportunity for bold scientists who need to gather data in the field anywhere in the world. For a scientific expedition the Neuron Endowment Fund usually devotes up to CZK 1,000,000 from the resources of the fund's patrons. Bold projects with a clear scientific aim have a chance of success. The new round will be announced in advance. The creation of the Neuron Expedition project was inspired in 2015 by the famous traveller Miroslav Zikmund. The fund has already supported eight successful expeditions to various corners of our planet, to a total value of CZK 2.8 million. More at www.nfneuron.cz/cs/expedice-neuron.
