Quo vadis, democracy? Neuron invites you to a debate
The Neuron Endowment Fund, Aspen Institute CE and Opero invite you to another debate in the Society 4.0 series, which addresses the key questions of the modern age. This time we will focus on the theme of democracy, the social order and their principles in a technological age. We will meet on 16 November 2022 at 6:30 p.m. at Opero. The social order of Western society is currently undergoing a significant stress test. The basic principles of democracy include government through freely elected representatives, the right to free expression and access to information, the right to free association and the protection of minorities, and the separation of powers. It seems, however, that the current system is not able to respond quickly enough to the headlong development of society driven by globalisation and technological progress. A crisis of trust in institutions and in objective truth is dividing society. Populism is winning out over transparent (economic) debate.
What are the driving forces behind the organisation of our society?
Can we learn from history so that the system better generates democratically elected leaders capable of leading society towards a positive agenda?
The aim of the debate will be to identify the main sources and phenomena of the current crisis of democracy and to offer some reflection on the smaller and larger possibilities for resolving the situation, including in relation to "democracy 4.0".
