Podcast: The neuroscientist Filip Tylš from the Neuron Expedition

What leads people to experience altered states of consciousness? MUDr. Filip Tylš, Ph.D. is a neuroscientist, psychotherapist, psychedelic sitter and co-founder of CZEPS and the Psyon clinic. In the podcast he shares his path as a psychonaut and a scientist with us.
We talk about how psychedelics affect the human mind and health, about their mechanism of action in the brain and their therapeutic influence. On our partner podcast Brain We Are, Filip also told us how the psychedelic team from the National Institute of Mental Health is heading to South America on a research trip to collect data as part of a Neuron Expedition.
To the Amazon in search of the therapeutic potential of ayahuasca – during 2019 the first part of the Neuron expedition took place, when a group of scientists from the National Institute of Mental Health travelled to the Amazon to research the psychedelic effects of the ayahuasca brew in its natural setting. Preparing such an expedition took long years, especially of negotiating and gathering various permits. But it all bore fruit and the Neuron Expedition's travels took it to the Huni Kuin people, who agreed to take part in the first phase of the experiment with EEG recording caps. The main part of the experiment, whose aim is to study in detail how a ceremonial experience with ayahuasca in a traditional setting can have positive effects on mood and wellbeing, and the neurobiological markers of that experience, is planned for the first half of this year, so there is much to look forward to.
