The Neuron Foundation supported the 10th Junior Science Conference
For the tenth time, young science enthusiasts gathered at Albertov with conference papers they had prepared, competing for the favour of a demanding jury made up of biologists, chemists, mathematicians, physicists and geologists. Given the large number of high-quality and at the same time varied presentations, the jury had a very hard task. The Neuron Foundation contributed CZK 50,000 to this event of the Faculty of Science of Charles University.
The 10th Junior Science Conference took place on 5–6 November 2021 on the academic premises of the Faculty of Science of Charles University. The event's main aim is to give children a unique taste of the scientific environment and thereby motivate them to go on studying science and technology, and to let them visit specialist laboratories. And to meet real scientists who can help them gain experience in their further research work.
The conference follows the traditional concept of scientific conferences, only adapted to young participants. The young scientists thus experienced the atmosphere of a real conference, from meeting genuine specialists and getting to know friends with the same interests, through presenting their findings before an audience, to specialist lectures and cocoa breaks. Children aged 10 to 19 took part in the conference by registering their projects in the fields of Earth science (geography, geology, meteorology, mineralogy, palaeontology…), living nature (biology, zoology, anthropology, botany, ecology…), the human body and medicine (anatomy, toxicology, physiology, medicines, pharmacology…), hi-tech (technology, computers, space flight, astronomy…) and chemical and physical magic (chemical or physical phenomena and experiments…).
On the premises of the Faculty of Science of Charles University they then presented their subjects in the form of talks, either as individuals or in teams of no more than two. This year nine pairs presented; the other participants prepared their papers as individuals. This year not only the expert jury but the participants themselves rated the quality of the papers as very high. The jury finally determined the order as follows:
