The term artificial intelligence has long ceased to be merely a subject of discussion and research among experts. Society is stirred by questions surrounding the concrete tools that companies are introducing into their processes, and its use is becoming part of the solution for ordinary users, chatGPT included. The possibilities and results of technology built on machine learning and neural networks are growing exponentially. Along with that grows the public debate about how the massive use of artificial intelligence will affect established rules and ways of life — especially when it currently appears that artificial intelligence is able to imitate or surpass humans capably in domains we regarded as thoroughly human: the synthesis of information, or creativity.
Which fields of human activity will the use of artificial intelligence affect most, and how? How will the way we obtain and use information change? Will artificial intelligence support our capacity for critical thinking, or the opposite? Will it strengthen human creativity, or replace it? Will it be a good servant, or a master?
The next instalment in the Society 4.0 series aims to answer these questions and to find its bearings in the lively public debate about the impacts of another technological revolution.
