We have opened nominations for the 2019 Neuron Awards

The Neuron Endowment Fund has begun the process of nominating the future laureates of the prestigious 2019 Neuron Awards for science. Nominations may be submitted to the endowment fund by deans and rectors of public institutions, directors of academic institutes and representatives of the Academy of Sciences, members of the Neuron Scientific Board and laureates of previous years. The nomination process will run until the end of March 2019. The laureates will be announced at a ceremony in the autumn of 2019. The Neuron Awards are the most significantly endowed science awards — they include a generous personal prize for those honoured, which comes exclusively from the private resources of the patrons of the Neuron Endowment Fund.
The Neuron Endowment Fund will select the best scientists in seven scientific disciplines — mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, medicine and the social sciences. It will honour both experienced scientists and young talents. The laureates are decided by the Neuron board. The world-class expertise of the laureates is now also guaranteed by an international scientific board, which has taken part in selecting the laureates since 2018. "We always try to select the very best, so that those honoured are genuinely the leading figures of their fields and their work advances those fields on a world scale too. If we do not find such candidates, we do not give the award," says Monika Vondráková, chair of the administrative board and one of the fund's founders.
Last year the Neuron Endowment Fund honoured a total of ten scientists in three categories and seven scientific fields. It shared a record CZK 8 million between them. A further CZK 1 million went to the winning Neuron Expedition.
