The Neuron Foundation will make another scientific dream come true for a talented student

A passion for science often begins at an early age, which is why supporting young talent is one of the Neuron Foundation's main missions. We have a long-standing partnership with the Junior Science Conference, where every year we help a selected student take a step closer to their scientific dreams. This year we decided to honour the talented Adéla Podholová.

Fifteen-year-old Adéla Podholová, a student at a grammar school in Liberec, impressed the jury not only with her knowledge but above all with her passion for research.

Adéla earned her victory with a presentation on the antibacterial potential of natural substances such as garlic and honey. Her work stood out not only for its meticulous literature review but also for the experiments she carried out in her home laboratory. "When I learn something new I literally feel tingling all over. I can easily spend six hours on something," Adéla says of her enthusiasm for science.

She develops her curiosity and interest in biology and chemistry not only in her school lessons but also by taking part in many olympiads. What fascinates her most is the area of cells and DNA. She would very much like to try laboratory work and see experienced scientists at work. That is also the direction her fulfilled scientific dream will take. In the past the Neuron Foundation has honoured a number of leading biologists and chemists who can help Adéla at the start of her scientific journey.

"We are delighted to welcome Adéla into our neuron network. We are sure she has a promising future ahead of her and we look forward to her next steps," said the foundation's director Monika Vondráková.
