The Neuron board has chosen the 2023 Neuron Award laureates

At its meeting on 23 May 2023 the Neuron board confirmed the laureates of the Neuron Awards for 2023. The prestigious scientific distinction will go to four outstanding women scientists, four men scientists and one transfer project. The Neuron Awards will be presented to these exceptional figures of Czech science at a gala evening in the autumn.

The main Neuron Award will go to an exceptional chemist, four Neuron Awards will go to promising women scientists and three awards to promising men scientists. The Neuron Award for connecting science and business will go to a project applying a patent for cancer diagnostics.

The new laureates were presented during the meeting by the individual guarantors of the scientific councils; their selection was based on nominations from the academic and scientific community. The names were then confirmed by a vote of the Neuron board, on which members of the scientific and administrative boards and the patrons are represented.

The names of the 2023 Neuron Award laureates will be revealed during the gala ceremony this autumn. The best Czech scientists will receive a personal financial award; from the gifts of its patrons Neuron will pay out a total of CZK 5,000,000 to them.

Monika Vondráková, chair of the administrative board, briefed those present on Neuron's current activities and presented the planned transformation. "The aim is to support outstanding scientists through a foundation that will secure long-term funding for our grants and projects," Monika Vondráková said of the ongoing conversion of the Neuron Endowment Fund into the Neuron Foundation.
