Martin Schwarzer has won an EMBO grant to set up his own research group

Martin Schwarzer works in molecular biology and genetics. He studies the properties of the bacterium Lactobacillus plantarum, thanks to which an organism can grow even without proteins. For this ground-breaking research he received a Neuron Impuls in 2017. If clinical tests confirm it, this bacterium could in future help, for instance, in areas where children suffer from malnutrition. For further research into the properties of this bacterium he recently won a prestigious EMBO grant intended for setting up one's own research group. He became one of only ten holders of this grant.
