Giving brings me more happiness than spending, says Libor Winkler
1 July 2023
Libor Winkler is a somewhat different kind of billionaire. The co-owner and chairman of the board of the RSJ financial group has no car, travels to work by public transport and goes camping on holiday. Instead of luxurious residences and yachts, he gives tens of millions of crowns to charity. "I don't have to restrict myself in any way. I have no craving for luxury things. If I knew that some expensive car or palace would bring me absolute happiness, I wouldn't hesitate for a moment and would buy it straight away. But I find doing something meaningful far more fulfilling," says Winkler, who is one of the largest donors in the Czech Republic. He supports science, art and culture above all, but a whole range of other areas as well. Among other things he was there at the founding of the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague, the Neuron Foundation for the support of science, the Anti-Corruption Endowment and the Endowment Fund for Independent Journalism.
